Madina

The City of Light—A spiritual journey to Madinah

For millions of Muslims, Madinah is more than a city; it is a spiritual home. Known as "the city of the Prophet," it is where faith was nurtured and the first Islamic community, or ummah, was established. A visit to Madinah is a profound, heart-stirring journey that reconnects pilgrims with the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the early days of Islam.

The Hijrah: The city's defining moment

The city's history is defined by the Hijrah, the migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Makkah to Madinah (then known as Yathrib) in 622 CE. This event marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar and transformed Madinah into the base for the nascent Muslim caliphate. The Prophet's arrival brought peace and unity to a city previously divided by tribal conflicts, creating a harmonious society based on Islamic principles.

Sacred sites of immense reverence

The heart of Madinah is Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, the Prophet's Mosque, which is the second holiest site in Islam after the Kaaba in Makkah.

The Prophet's Tomb: Millions come to pay their respects at the Prophet's final resting place, which is housed within the mosque.

The Rawdah: A special, revered area of the mosque, described by the Prophet as one of the "Gardens of Paradise".

Expansion: The mosque, originally a simple structure built by the Prophet and his companions, has undergone numerous expansions over centuries to accommodate the growing number of visitors.
